Sing, Serve, Blog: IWCC Board of Directors Blog

Goal: Communicate more effectively to the Chorale about the Board's leadership activities

Objective: Create and maintain a blog summarizing the Board's activities and publicize it with the membership.

The Idaho-Washington Concert Chorale Board of Directors held its retreat of the 2008-09 season this Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Lewiston. In brief, we met to clarify the Board's vision, mission, goals and objectives for the next year, five years and ten years.

One of the goals is, as you see, to communicate about our activities. We decided to create and maintain a blog. Please bookmark this page. We will make sure you know about new postings.

Want some more details about our retreat?

For four intense hours, we brainstormed and worked to formulate a clearer idea of the purpose, goals and objectives of the Board of Directors for the upcoming year. In other words, we were working to clarify how the Board can help the Chorale fulfill its mission.

For those of you who don't read the bylaws and policies of the IWCC for fun, here is a reminder of the Chorale's mission.

We meet as a community to learn choral music, which we strive to perform at the highest possible level for the enjoyment and education of our audience and our own personal fulfillment.
Clarification really was needed for all of us, but especially for the external members of our Board. These members are not Chorale members, and they are not Executive Committee members. They are community members who are interested in the IWCC's role in the community and who have agreed to represent the community's interest. IWCC is fortunate to have four remarkable external Board members, Barb Hayes of Lewiston, Pastor Kevin Dow of Lewiston (United Methodist), Judy Croskey, and Chris Thompson of Moscow. Pastor Kevin has just joined our group. Barb Hayes will be completing her 4th year on the board and has contributed significantly to our fundraising and sponsor relationship-building efforts. Judy Croskey is president of Tapestry, the wonderful women's choral group, and is completing her third year. Chris, Music professor at U of Idahois completing his second year; he has also notably graced many of our performances with his remarkable solos.

Our entire Board of Directors is listed to the right.

Our Deliberations

Thank you!

The retreat was facilitated by Janet Schmit, who works for Washington State University's Extension Office and has facilitated quite a few discussions like these for organizations in the area. We thank Janet heartily for her fine work with us.

Thanks, Pastor Kevin, for providing the very comfortable Wesley conference room in the United Methodist Church for our use.

  1. Looks great! So, were you looking for one of us to post under the Deliberations heading? Shall I list the goals we've come up with so far?
